Africa Centre for Open Governance

The Africa Centre for Open Governance (AfriCOG) is an independent, non-profit making organisation with a mandate to provide cutting edge research on governance and public ethics issues and, monitor governance fundamentals in both the government and the private sector. AfriCOG's governance and anti-corruption reform initiative are aimed at addressing the structural causes of Kenya's governance crisis by a knowledgeable citizenry.
Identity
The Africa Centre for Open Governance (AfriCOG) is a Kenyan civil society organization (CSO) dedicated to addressing the structural causes of corruption in Kenya. It was officially registered in January 2007.
Vision
AfriCOG envisions a Kenya in which citizens are alert and civic institutions are permanently vigilant over public life and provide oversight to the management of politics and the economy.
Mission
AfriCOG’s mission is to provide cutting edge research on governance; monitor performance on political and economic governance in the public and private sectors; build a constituency of anti-corruption champions; and be an authoritative resource centre on governance and anti-corruption issues in Kenya and the region.
Core Values
AfriCOG’s work is founded on and informed by the following six core values:
1) Professionalism:AfriCOG will conduct sound policy-relevant research and publish products that are objective and non-partisan.
2) Independence:AfriCOG will always be independent and politically non-partisan in its stance and work.Directors, staff and members will honour this principle.
3) Integrity:AfriCOG directors, members and staff will practise honesty, transparency and accountability.
4) People-centredness:AfriCOG will work for the long-term welfare of the Kenyan people.
5) Courage:AfriCOG believes that courage to speak out on public wrongs is a civic duty and the secret of liberty. It will support and stand up for those who speak and act in the public good.
6) Proactive approach:AfriCOG knows that inertia breeds impunity and repression. Its approach will therefore be proactive and pre-emptive in combating corruption and bad governance.
